Today my heart is full of gratitude to our Veterans. Those who serve now and all who have served in the past. We would not have the ability, freedom nor the rights we too often take for granted without your service and sacrifice.
As I sit here, images run through my mind. One of General Patton, on his knees praying at the side of a fallen soldier. Of him in a hospital, praying with one wounded.
I see an image from the first Iraq war of a weary soldier holding an inconsolable orphan, and her dozing against his chest. Soldiers caring for the abandoned, the suffering, the terrified. Compassionate. Caring. Heroes.
I see a unit of soldiers preparing for a mission, huddle in a circle, clasp hands and pray.
God is no stranger to soldiers.
And soldiers are no strangers to God.
Thank you, God, for watching over our veterans. And thank you veterans for watching over our nation and us.
Happy Veterans Day. May you feel the gratitude and support expressed today every day.
Blessings,
Vicki
