Authors are often asked why they chose to write a specific story. The answers are as varied as the authors themselves. So I thought it would be interesting to ask why USA Today Bestselling Author Regan Black wrote BLACK ICE, Book 4 in the STORMWATCH series. Here’s what Regan had to say:
Being invited into the world of STORMWATCH for a connected series of mystery- and suspense-filled stories set during a record-breaking winter storm was a true delight. And just the creative challenge I needed at the time. Teaming up with Debra Webb, Vicki Hinze, Peggy Webb, Cindy Gerard and Rita Herron, authors I love to read and who have influenced and inspired me through their mentorship and friendship is a remarkable opportunity.
Learning that my story within the series, BLACK ICE, would be set in South Dakota, I immediately dove into location research, looking for a place where the storm would make an impact and what kind of characters would need to respond to a crisis. Because I enjoy a good heist story almost as much as I enjoy a sweet reunion of two people who are truly meant for each other, I set the story in a casino in the heart of Deadwood.
There are times when the writing process can feel dreadfully lonely. Knowing there were five bestselling authors in the background ready with encouragement, advice or humor as needed, helped me immensely as the story of Wyatt and Evie standing up against a gang of thieves and a vicious storm came together into Black Ice.
