The Legend of the Christmas Scarf
by
Vicki Hinze
Each Christmas, I tell my angels a story about a Christmas item familiar to them. One they see often during the Christmas season. In past years, we’ve explored the Nativity, the Christmas wreath, Christmas stocking, ornaments, Christmas trees, and candy canes. In keeping with our tradition this year, we’re looking at the Christmas Scarf.
Traditions are important. They give us a sense of self. Who we are. Why we’re who we are. What is important to us and in life. But traditions, like anything else, suffers from neglect. If we don’t relay them, then those who follow us, won’t know them. That renders them unable to relay them. That’s why I began the tradition in our home of retelling the history and tradition of familiar Christmas items.
Because my angels (and their parents) so enjoy this tradition, I thought I’d share the story so that you might share it with your little ones, too. Start, if you please, a tradition in your homes with your families.
We are the keepers of the traditions.
