I have to say that I’ve been on this all day–nearly non-stop. But I’ve gotten some very excited emails from those who learned friends were safe, and some very worried ones from those whose friends are missing.
It’s been an emotional rollercoaster. But a wonderful thing happened in that I saw people coming together because they cared. And others reaching out to help. That’s a very gratifying thing, and I wanted to share it with you.
On those days, and during those times, when you think the world has gone to hell in a handbasket. When you think that people just don’t do the right thing because it is the right thing. They’re self-absorbed and just don’t care. On those days, email me.
Because today I was blessed to receive proof–not once, but again and again–that those things simply are not true.
It is comforting and brings great solace at a time when we all need it. Even in tragedy there is an opportunity for us to discover others, inside, where it most matters. And what amazing creatures with such capacity for compassion and heart so many prove to be.
My relatives are still unaccounted for, but I think tonight for the first night since the storm, I shall sleep.
