WARNING:  This is a no-edit zone…

Back in 1999, I wrote a book, ACTS OF HONOR.  In it, I used a non-invasive microwave laser technology and dreamed up an application for it that was in create-mode and would be an enormous tactical weaponry advantage to our troops.  Then I had the technology in development.  The goal was to find a way to disarm opponents without firing a shot.

Now that technology is real and has many applications, one of which is similar to the one I came up with for it, which could be used effectively to assist police in riot situations and in battle.

In 1999, I married an article I read in Scientific American with two documents on the web on microwave laser technology.  I dreamed up and wove a story around those two things.

A few days ago, a friend and fan of ACTS OF HONOR came across the following and sent it to me.

I’m not sure if writers tap into some collective awareness or if some reader was a whiz at this stuff and saw some potential or if it’s just one of those weird things that happen.  What I do know is it wasn’t real then but is now–and professionals have taken that germ and manifested it in multiple different, and naturally far more complex directions.

Still, it’s pretty amazing to see that germ of fantasy become fact…

And it is evidence of something I’ve advocated my entire writing career, and that is:
Write with passion and compassion. . .
